Some people see individualism as a prominent characteristic among Americans. However, our current epidemic of loneliness and isolation suggests that might not be so helpful. The words of John the Baptist teach us that we know ourselves best by knowing who we are NOT. We're also to remember that Advent is not about waiting for Jesus to be born, but for his light to be born in us.
